Frequently Asked Questions
How do I join?
Be courteous to all, but intimate with few, and let those few be well tried before you give them your confidence.
Masonry is a fraternity, therefore, all members are men and must have reached 19 years of age. You must also have maintained residency in the State of Michigan for a period of one year (six months for those in the military). You should be willing and open to respecting and helping others as well as growing and developing as a human being. It is also required that you believe in a higher power than yourself, not as a religious requirement, but rather that there is a higher calling that necessitates improvement in yourself and the world around you.
Masons do not ask others to join. Masons will not solicit or recruit men to join the fraternity. Freemasons believe that a man should only seek membership out of his own free will and accord, not because he was pressured or coerced.
Where do I begin?
The first step to join Freemasonry is to contact a lodge and express your interest. A representative of the lodge will reach out to you to answer any questions you might have about the lodge or Freemasonry itself. This initial contact will be followed up with additional steps that may include a face-to-face meeting with other members of the lodge, meeting and introductions to family members, or perhaps an invitation to a lodge event.
